Spring 2020

The Computer Science Department at CECFC is continuing our innovation of offerings for the Fall 2020 Semester that we started in the Fall 2019 Semester. I am teaching all computer programming classes this semester. Steve Hurst was hired to teach the A+ Certification and Network+ Certification classes. Steve is also teaching all CIS118 classes.

If you are interested in being a better programmer, we are offering two two-class sequences. The first class of each sequence is CSC160 (4 hours credit) and will expect 5 hours/week of work and discussions to help bring new programmers up to speed. Each Spring, this class will be taught using Java. Each Fall, the class will be taught using C++. The last class of the sequence is CSC161, offered Spring Semester using C++. Each Fall, this class will be taught using Java. CSC161 is for those who have completed CSC160 in the same language. At the end of CSC161, we are researching ways for you to earn your certification in the appropriate language. Anyone in these classes will be eligible to compete in the Technical Student Association (TSA) State Conference Competition and the HP Spring Coding Competition. Those who do well at the TSA State Conference will be eligible to compete in the TSA National Conference. Please see your advisor and come to the TSA meetings Tuesdays at 3:00 PM for more information. I would also like to form a coding club in the afternoon each week. Since I teach at three schools, there may be multiple clubs. The required software for each class include:

All Languages: GitHub

C++: Latest Microsoft Visual Studio C++ – Community Edition (this includes the C++ compiler) and Microsoft Visio.

Java: Java (TM) SE Development Kit 14.0.1 (64 bit) or newer, ItelliJ Idea Community Edition, Android Studio
