Welcome to Algebra I. This is where you come to verify schedules, objectives, and assignments for this class.
Syllabus
The objectives and description of this course is found in the Algebra I Class Syllabus.
Priority Standards for 090 (Algebra I)
These are the concepts each student should master by the end of the semester:
- Applications of Linear Equations
- Graphing Linear Equations
- 2×2 Systems
- Polynomials
- Factoring
- Integer Exponents
Rules for Class
All applicable Colorado Early Education – Fort Collins rules. In this class I have two rules that are very important to me:
- Treat each person in this room with the respect with which you would like to be treated.
- Except when in an organized group discussion, only one person speaks at a time.
Clarification of Rules for This Class
My personal goal is to see all of you succeed in this class so that each student can progress to the next class in their sequence. To do this, I need to clarify my two rules. For this purpose, I have separated out the Participation Grade for the class from the Homework Grade. Homework will be worth 10%, while Participation will be worth 5% of the grade. Participation points are 25/week. Violations of any of the following will be point deductions.
- All students will be in and stay in their assigned seats for the duration of the class.
- All students will have their books on their desk, open to the proper page.
- Each student will have their homework out at the beginning of class so that I can review it. This is the time to ask questions, if needed, before I come around and check it after taking attendance.
- Each student will sit up straight in their desk and give respect to the person talking.
- You will create a desire to learn and participate appropriately in the class, including doing problems on the board.
Motivation
There is an extra-credit opportunity by reading an article, watching a simple video, and writing answers about your experiences. Go here for the question sheet and pointers to the article and video.
Hints
As I see certain aspects of Algebra where several of the students are struggling, I will add information to my Hints file to help. If you have suggestions on what you would like to see here, please let me know.
