Important Contributors from Around the World

I teach Computer Science. I ask my students to write something about someone they admire. When students write about Important Contributors from Around the World, I will post that information here:

Pedro Paulet (Peru)

Contribution: Pedro Paulet was a Peruvian scientist and diplomat who is considered the “Pioneer of the Space Age.” In 1895, he designed and built the first liquid-fueled rocket engine. He also designed the “Avión Torpedo” (Torpedo Plane), which was a precursor to the modern aerospace vehicles.

Why I admire him: I admire Paulet because, as a Peruvian, he showed that visionary ideas can come from anywhere in the world. Even with limited resources. Admire him because, as a Peruvian myself, I feel very proud of his legacy. He proved that with vision and dedication, someone from my country could lay the foundations for the most advanced technology in history.
